3G Services not pitching satisfactory figures in India?

After years of delays and when rest of the Asia is heading towards 4G evolution, India has finally got the taste of 3G. Every Indian Web user has been eagerly waiting for this service to hit the Indian shores. But the question arises here is, whether India is ready for 3G services?

High expectations, Low results

3G services which promises to offer high speed internet services, video calling, multiplayer gaming and much more to customers is now being associated with poor coverage, frequent call drops, poor voice quality and stumpy uploading speeds.

The high profile claims by mobile vendors regarding the 3G technology services seems to have hit a roadblock. The poor connectivity of 3G services has compelled many users to switch back to their old networks. More and more customers are complaining of frequent call drops and poor voice quality.

Scarcity of spectrum

The telecom operators who shelled out billions for buying spectrum are defending themselves by saying that every new technology need some time to mature and become stable. But this is not an acceptable answer when consumer is paying hard-earned money to avail this service.

The hiccups related to the 3G network is basically experienced in leading telecom operators such as Airtel and Vodafone, whereas BSNL and Reliance Communications are doing a fairly good job on providing 3G services. The reason being, they don’t have many subscribers in contrast to their rivals and thus provide high speeds to their customers.

Many Indian vendors are still struggling with 3G technology. They are blaming the insufficiency of spectrum as the major hitch in effective 3G performance. In this race of becoming the best service provider, the emphasis is not only on the prices but also on content and quality, especially when it comes to 3G battle.

4G, isn't it too early?

The telecom operators though are going gung-ho about their 3G offering, it is the expectations of people which the 3G has let down. They simply can’t get away with the views that the technology is new to India and companies are still in the implementation phase therefore, some technical glitches are bound to come up. According to them, users have to wait little longer to enjoy the promised quality of 3G.

As several Indian carriers are talking about debuting 4G networks, it’s important that they get the strong foothold on 3G first, which is currently not stable in India, and isn't worth paying the hefty bills.
